This is Coach D and Noah, my son. Today, we're gonna go over the quarterback and center exchange. Noah, are you ready? All right, so first principle is proper stance. Noah, let's show them a proper center stance. Let's start that out. First of all, let's go about just stand right there with me, a little bit wider than your shoulders width apart. Cool. Now bend your knees, okay? Put your butt down and put the ball in front of you, a little bit further out in front. I need my legs a little bit wider. Good. This is a proper center stance. It looks just like this: my butt down, and because we're working with young kids, they're probably gonna have two hands on the ball. Noah, let me see two hands on that ball. Cool.
Now, we're gonna hike this ball. Noah, what we're gonna do is, are we gonna go between our legs or are we gonna go to the side? Between our legs. So, let me see, Noah does this. Now, remember your butt needs to stay a little bit lower. Cool. And then the quarterback is gonna stand right above them. Ready, go. Cool. And what Noah just did is he hiked the ball not like this, not with the point up, but I want to get the quads. As the quarterback, I want to get that ball just like this, right? So when you hike the ball, are you hiking it with the point up like this, or are you hiking it like this? Like that. All right, so let's try a nice little drill.
What we've done is we've got a box here about five yards apart and five yards long as well, and what we're gonna do is we're gonna switch off being the center and the quarterback to practice this quarterback and center exchange. Noah, are you ready? Let's do it. You're gonna be center first. You ready? So, he gets in this nice position: butt down, knees bent. I come over as a quarterback, I'm gonna keep my jaws open like this. Ready, go. Nice.
Now I'm the center. We go to this cone. Noah, come over and be quarterback. What did we learn on that? Let's talk to the camera, bud. To be QB and center, and to bend your legs with your... when you're center, stand like this when you're QB. Okay, so then you get the ball right in there, and what do we do with our hands when we are QB? Do we hold them like this, or do we hold them like this? Okay, yeah. When we're a quarterback, we want to have our jaws open just like this, like we're crunching down on our mouth guard, right? So we want to have a nice, easy stance. Go ahead and be center, bud. And I want to just be flexible and comfortable. I want to keep my eyes up. The center wants to keep their head up as well, and I keep my jaws open, ready for that. Ready, go. Nice. Excellent.
